Reduce Parking Lot Litter
Your parking lot is one of the first things your clients see when they arrive at your business – which is why keeping your lot clean and litter-free is of utmost importance.
Not only is litter bad for the environment, it can become a safety hazard in your space and might not leave a great impression on guests. By creating an easy-to-follow plan, you can take the steps to improve your facility and overall environmental impact. Here are a few easy steps you can implement this year to help reduce parking lot litter.
Ensure there are garbage cans nearby
One of the first things to check off your list is making sure you have garbage cans near your parking lot area. By providing an accessible garbage can, people are less likely to throw their garbage on the ground. Add one to two garbage cans in safe and central areas, a couple of great spots are by a light-post or near the entrance/exit doors.
Empty trash cans regularly
If trash cans are overflowing, crowded, or difficult to locate, guests will give up and leave their waste on the ground. Make sure you have staff on hand to empty them periodically. As long as they stick to a schedule, they should be able to maintain receptacles before they start to overflow.
Maintain landscaping & overall property
If visitors feel like they are in a clean and welcoming environment they are less likely to litter. Keep your landscaping, paint job, decorations and overall appearance as nice as possible. Having litter present, makes some people feel like it is acceptable to do it, so minimizing litter whenever possible is essential.
Include Commercial Recycling Containers
Adding commercial recycling containers exemplifies you run a “green”-minded business. You can easily give the impression that your business is environmentally-oriented by providing a few commercial recycling containers on your property. It’s an easy addition that will go a long way with your customers and keep the planet clean as well.
When your property looks ill-maintained, it can come across to customers that you don’t take pride in your space. Make a great first impression with a clean and environmentally-friendly parking lot space while reducing overall waste and litter.
